Text Sant Singh Chatwal Sant Singh Chatwal is an Indian-American businessman, owner of the Bombay Palace chain of restaurants and Hampshire Hotels & Resorts. He is the father of socialite Vikram Chatwal and Vivek Chatwal. Chatwal was born in India, the third of eight children. He became a United States citizen in 1994. Chatwal stepped down as CEO of Hampshire Hotels Management in April 2014. He remains the chairman. In 2001, Chatwal became a founder trustee of the American India Foundation (AIF). He is a trustee of the William J. Clinton Foundation. Chatwal is a past president of International Punjabi Society (IPS) New York. Chatwal has long been friends with Bill and Hillary Clinton. He resides in a 45th-floor penthouse on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Honors and awards Chatwal was awarded the Padma Bhushan by Indian President Pratibha Patil on January 26, 2010. This led to a public controversy based on allegations of malfeasance levelled against Chatwal. The Government of India has since upheld its award decision. In November 2013, The Economic Times named Chatwal the 19th most powerful, influential and contemporary Sikh in the world.
